Creative Writing Course (Year 5)
This course does not require an assessment prior to enrolment. The course is suitable for children in year 5 who want to improve their creative writing ability, either in preparation for an entrance exam, for Independent and Grammar schools or alongside their school work.
The aim of the course is to:
- Help children achieve their full potential in Creative Writing whilst at primary school and to be able to carry this through to secondary school
- Use memorable acronyms to learn and remember various aspects of creative writing, such as: descriptive and figurative language, building tension, punctuation, grammar and using sentence structure intentionally
- Analyse and re-write exemplar final pieces to encourage children to understand how they can improve their own written pieces from a different perspective
- Allow and help children to complete final pieces in various writing styles (i.e. diary entry, newspaper article)
- Allow children to digest the material at their own pace with weekly opportunities to apply and build on their knowledge and practice writing in different formats, styles and contexts
- Learn to incorporate all elements of what the examiner will be looking for by using child-friendly marking schemes, checklists and colour-coded systems
- Develop a love of learning and a love for Creative Writing
